Urban Times Magazine

I have been working at Urban Times for a year now. Over that year I have already had so many different oppurtunities and met many truly inspiring and influential people. I first met Christina and Crystal when we were all at the same event. We were at a fundraiser fashion show for the Salvation Army I believe. I was in the runway show and they were both guests.  It was a crazy show! The runway consisted of multiple sets of raised stair cases and the garments were all constructed out of recycled, used, and vintage clothing. We had such an energy that we were drawn together despite me not knowing them yet. Long story short Crystal, who is the managing editor, and I talked quite a bit and kept in contact. They eventually found a little niche for me at the magazine. I started out doing some online stuff and tring to help them start their myspace and facebok pages despite the fact that I previouslly had never so much as even looked at either myspace or facebook. Then after being on board for awhile they named me Marketing Coordinator. This brought on the new challenge of helping a publication get to the next level through the generation of ideas to help make the magazine more marketable. All the while I was beggining to attend different events with Crystal and other ladies from Boveri Realty, who we share a beautiful office with downtown at 18th and Wyandotte. They took me in and I realized what it meant to like where you work and who you work with. We frequently went to lunch together and they introduced me to so many amazing local eateries that I had non idea existed right here in my own home town. Then the summer time came and with it brought the Urban Times one year anniversary. Me and Crystal were given the task of pulling off the bridge top party in the heart of down towm KC. Neither one of us had ever planned an event for 400 + guests... Or any event for that matter. It was a learning experience. It seemed impossible at first but in the end it all worked out. The event was perfect and it made me realize how much fun party planning could be too.. And how much more fun it would be the second time around knowing what we did now. Next up- Styling the fashion section. The publisher already knew how into fashion I was and the fact that I modeled too. After all that was how we met but my passion for the industry goes even deeper beyond just modeling. So before I knew it I was given the chance to prove myself styling my first photo shoot ever. It was a 12 page spread featuring seven models, four locations, earth friendly rides from Vespa, Harley, and Smart Car, Tivol jewelry, and all the clothing I wanted to pull from any store I so chose. Once again it was my first time ever pulling something like that off and oh yeah.. They asked me to model for that very shoot as well. It was scary at first because I was not used to being on a set from a stylist's point of view but I quickly got more comfortable and by the end I was loving it. I have now more recently started helping with ad space sales. No matter what it is I love rising to the challenge, learning, proving myself, and meeting and working along side active, influential, and creative individuals.
